NEW YORK, June 13, 2018 — The Howard Hughes Corporation® (NYSE: HHC) announced today the details for Seaport Summer 2018, a seasonal series of experiences and partnerships that will be unveiled in the Seaport District, including the new Pier 17. A dynamic destination that will have a unique mix of entertainment, culture, shopping and dining, the Seaport District is emerging as a new hub and community anchor in Lower Manhattan.
New Yorkers and visitors alike will find a multitude of exciting summer activations and events. Upcoming openings on Pier 17 include the Heineken® Riverdeck, Market Hall, the Chase Sapphire Lounge, and the recently announced Pier 17 Rooftop Summer Concert Series in partnership with Live Nation. In celebration of summer, the Seaport District will host the Color Block Party featuring a one-of-a-kind art installation by celebrated artist GERONIMO.
“We are pleased to reintroduce our neighbors and welcome newcomers to this iconic part of New York, which is a symbol of Lower Manhattan’s continued resurgence and will serve as a vibrant hub and must-visit destination for people all over the city,” said Saul Scherl, President of the New York Tri-State Region, The Howard Hughes Corporation. “By enabling New Yorkers to reconnect with their city’s waterfront and its storied history, we look forward to re-establishing the Seaport District as a port of discovery and essential part of New York.”
The Howard Hughes Corporation is proud to welcome Chase, Heineken, PepsiCo, and The Lincoln Motor Company as founding partners of the Seaport District as part of Seaport Summer 2018.
Seaport Summer 2018 will kick off with the opening of the Heineken Riverdeck on June 15. Located on the north side of Pier 17, the Heineken Riverdeck will feature spectacular views of the Brooklyn and the Manhattan Bridges, as well as seasonal food and handcrafted specialty drinks by Pier 17 Mixologist Mark Murphy, a veteran bartender of Starr Restaurants and Saxon + Parole, most recently recognized for his cocktails and curation of the extensive agave spirits collection at El Vez.
“Heineken has a proven track record as a brand dedicated to live entertainment and elevating the fan experience across a multitude of events, festivals and concerts,” said Pattie Falch, Director of Sponsorships and Events at HEINEKEN USA. “We’re excited to continue this legacy through our partnership with The Howard Hughes Corporation and a summer packed with incredible experiences within one of New York’s most iconic settings.”
Starting June 28, Chase Sapphire cardmembers can experience the new Chase Sapphire Lounge, located on the northeast side of Pier 17. For a second consecutive year, Sapphire cardmembers can show their card for access to this lounge, which comes with a number of unique benefits including dedicated bar service and a private seating area. New this year, cardmembers will also have access to Sapphire Sunday celebrations, featuring special cardmember offers at a variety of Seaport shops and restaurants beginning Sunday, July 8.
In celebration of summer, the Seaport District will hold a Color Block Party on Saturday, June 30 in partnership with acclaimed artist GERONIMO, who will unveil a new, site-specific work overlooking the East River, based on her trademark massive-scale, colorful sculptures made of recycled, air-inflated balloons. The work of Jihan Zencirli, a Turkish-American artist creating under the moniker GERONIMO, is designed to be democratic in its availability, transforming public spaces into highly engaging artistic experiences.
“I’m delighted to debut a new era of my work, months in the making, with an environmentally sustainable semi-permanent installation at the Seaport District,” said Zencirli. “Generally known for its ephemeral tone and biodegradable composition, my work at Pier 17 is made of a newly engineered material, composed from recyclables, that will allow visitors to enjoy basking under the sculpture on the water’s edge until the end of the summer. The Seaport District’s iconic waterfront is the perfect environment for my work’s colorful orbs, which will visible from all around the East River, and will serve as an invitation for all to visit and enjoy Pier 17.”
The all-day party will include a lineup of DJs, as well as social media activations, curated food trucks, signature drink specials and a spectacular entrance by GERONIMO not to be missed. Guests are encouraged to dress head-to-toe in color-block for a chance to win $1,000 shopping sprees and other prizes spontaneously awarded throughout the day.
Additional Pier 17 features and events include:
