Famed for his gleaming, clean-lined structures like the Getty Center in Los Angeles, Pritzker Prize-winning architect Richard Meier has a lesser-known side – artist. Over more than five decades, he has created collages, encaustics and silkscreens, more than 30 of which from 2014 to 2017 will be featured in Richard Meier: Artist, a selling exhibition at Sotheby’s S|2 in New York, on view February 22 through March 29, 2018. Works on view explore the relationship between space, form and light, all fundamental concepts for Meier’s architecture. Each piece “must be seen as an element in my total work,” says Meier. “They are, for me. . . a passion related to my life as an architect.”
