NYC to Begin Distributing Face Coverings in Parks Across New York City

During his daily COVID-19 Press Conference, NYC Mayor de Blasio announced that over a quarter million masks would be distributed for free throughout New York City’s Parks. This would be done to help people adhere to the social distancing rules brought on by the Novel Coronavirus Pandemic.

“… want to make it easy for people to have face covering, so we’re going to start to give them out free in our City parks. We know it’s going to get warm; we know people to go to the parks, again, want people to keep some real limits on that, but I want everyone to have a face covering.,” said the Mayor.

A total of 275,000 face coverings would be handed out with over 100,000 to be distributed this coming week from Saturday, May 2nd to Tuesday, May 5th. He said the aim would be to focus on the parks where a lot of people are expected as well as those communities hardest hit by the virus.

Anyone interested in getting one of these face coverings could go to nyc.gov/facecoverings to learn about the locations where such distributions would be taking place. We’ve visited that site and the map featured within. Details for the exact location within each park, directions as well as the times and date are featured for all to see.

Mr. de Blasio would also state how in addition to the NYPD and the thousand non-NYPD city workers, who have been assigned to patrol the parks and public spaces, there would be others to support them. These would include personnel from the Parks Department, Sanitation, Fire Department, Environmental Protection, Sheriff’s Ofice as well as the Office of Special Enforcement.
