NYC Mayor de Blasio: We will Review and Reform the Use of Force Policies at the NYPD As Needed

Statement from Mayor de Blasio on taking My Brother’s Keeper Alliance and President Obama’s Pledge to Review, Engage, Report and Reform Police Use Of Force Policies

“George Floyd was murdered by a police officer because he was Black. The grief and righteous anger of this moment has built up over years and generations, and the only way to meet this moment is with action.

“People of color need to see and feel real change in their lives and in their interactions with the police. We’ve shown we can change this city these past six years. Now it’s time to show it again. Our administration will review and reform the use of force policies at the NYPD as needed, and engage the people of this city as we do it. We will continue down the path of reform. We will continue building bridges between police and communities. We will continue toward a safer and fairer city.”
