New York (March 14, 2024) – Rough Trade and Rockefeller Center will present the indieplaza festival at 30 Rockefeller Plaza on Saturday, April 20th from 12:00 PM to 9:00 PM. The festival celebrates independent music, minds, and merchandise, and will once again welcome indie to midtown Manhattan. Free and open to the public, indieplaza will feature a thoughtfully curated lineup of artists, an artist merchandise booth, arts & crafts booth, food and beverages, and more. This year is headlined by Chicago trio Dehd in advance of their anticipated new album Poetry. indieplaza will also spotlight some of the buzziest, up and coming artists in music today including: Wishy, an Indiana group with a 90s indie rock sound, NYC-based hip-hop duo Armand Hammer, indie/pop band Water From Your Eyes, and more. Tickets are available here.

MARKET DETAILS: BAND MERCH, VOTER REGISTRATION, FOOD/BEV, PROGRAMMING:

Alongside the main stage on the plaza, HeadCount will be on-site to register voters and promote civic engagement, our friends at WASTOIDS will lead an arts/craft market and an a/v activation, plus Rough Trade vinyl bins loaded with used goodies, an artist merch booth, and more. Expect to find assorted food & beverage options from the city as well!

RECORD STORE DAY

Record Store Day was conceived in 2007 at a gathering of independent record store owners and employees as a way to celebrate and spread the word about the unique culture surrounding nearly 1400 independently owned record stores in the US and thousands of similar stores internationally. The first Record Store Day took place on April 19, 2008. Today, Record Store Day is celebrated at independently owned brick-and-mortar record stores around the world.

Record Store Day 2024 will once again celebrate the independent record store on April 20, 2024. We expect hundreds if not thousands of music lovers to join us on this super-special day.

“Record Store Day and our indieplaza festival are both special and very popular days for us (Rough Trade) here in NYC, but combining the two together this year makes it ‘next level’ special and exciting. It essentially allows us to throw a free-to-attend celebration from morning til night – all in the name of celebrating amazing artists, vinyl records, and independent music stores. The fact that everything gets brought together at one of the world’s most iconic and inspiring city locations, Rockefeller Center, New York is still a *pinch me* moment for us.” – Wesley Lyons, Rough Trade Events & Promotions Manager
