The Public Theater’s Mobile Unit Presents Much Ado About Nothing
May 29 – June 29, 2025
Various NYC Locations
The Public Theater’s acclaimed Mobile Unit celebrates its 15th anniversary with a vibrant new production of William Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing, directed by Rebecca Martínez and featuring original songs and music by Julián Mesri. Presented free of charge across all five boroughs, this lively, 90-minute adaptation promises a fresh take on Shakespeare’s beloved romantic comedy, seamlessly blending timeless wit with Latine influences, original music, and moments of Spanish language.
The Mobile Unit continues its mission to make theater accessible to all by bringing this joyful and family-friendly production directly into neighborhoods, parks, libraries, correctional facilities, and other community spaces throughout New York City. No tickets or reservations are required — seating is first come, first served. Audience members are encouraged to arrive early, as seating is limited at all venues.
This year’s production marks the third consecutive collaboration between director Rebecca Martínez and composer Julián Mesri, who previously teamed up for Mobile Unit’s The Comedy of Errors. Together, they infuse Much Ado About Nothing with a contemporary spirit while honoring the heart of Shakespeare’s original text.
