The Photoville Festival is back this year with its free annual event showcasing photography from around the world in various locations across New York City. The festival was founded in 2011 by United Photo Industries, a Brooklyn-based nonprofit that aims to amplify visual storytellers and create innovative exhibitions and programming. Since then, the festival has grown to become one of the largest and most diverse photography events in the country, attracting hundreds of thousands of visitors every year.
On Saturday, June 4, 2022, the festival will celebrate its opening day with a community celebration at Brooklyn Bridge Park’s Pier 1. The celebration will feature over 30 exhibitions, workshops, photowalks, food and beverage vendors, musical performances, and more. The event is open to the public and will run from 1 pm to 10 pm. It all continues the following day on June 5. Some of the highlights include a photo documentary of the Black cowboy and cowgirl culture throughout America, a collaboration between TIME and female writers and photojournalists on Afghan female refugees, and a curated tour by Photoville’s founders.
The Photoville Festival will continue until June 18, 2022, with more than 80 exhibitions in all five boroughs of New York City. The festival will also offer online programming, such as talks, screenings, and workshops, for those who cannot attend in person. The Photoville Festival is a unique opportunity to experience the power and diversity of photography in a vibrant and accessible setting.
