Join them in the Winter Garden at Brookfield Place for Music of Our Sphere, a free concert performed by the Knickerbocker Chamber Orchestra in celebration of Earth Day.
Originally scheduled to perform for the 50th anniversary of Earth Day in 2020, the Knickerbocker Chamber Orchestra will send music soaring into the majestic Winter Garden this Earth Day with a musical appreciation of the beauty of nature and a meditation on the spiritual and literal issues we face with our continued existence on this earth.
The program, Music of Our Sphere, is inspired by Pythagoras’s philosophical concept that celestial bodies make music as they move through the heavens, and that through this connection, humanity is one with the universe. Repertoire includes the world premiere of KCO founder and music director Gary S. Fagin’s new cantata “In Every Grain of Sand” which takes its title from words by Rachel Carson, the author of Silent Spring.
PROGRAM:
- “Become River” by John Luther Adams
- Excerpts from “The Tender Land” by Aaron Copland
- Conversation with MacArthur Fellow Carl Safina
- “O Mensch, gib acht” (O Man, Pay Heed) from Symphony No. 3 by Gustav Mahler featuring Rosena Hill Jackson
- “Lost in the Stars” from the musical Lost in the Stars by Kurt Weill featuring Nathaniel Stampley
- “In Every Grain of Sand” by Gary S. Fagin featuring Rosena Hill Jackson and Nathaniel Stempley (World Premiere)
- “Voices of Spring Waltz” by Johann Strauss, Jr.
As the event concludes, the audience is invited to waltz under the Winter Garden palms.
