Brooklyn Botanic Garden’s popular holiday event, Lightscape, is set to return for its fourth year, bringing a dazzling display of over one million lights to the garden. Running from November 22, 2024, to January 5, 2025, Lightscape has become a must-see for New Yorkers during the holiday season. Visitors can explore a one-mile illuminated trail featuring sixteen breathtaking light sculptures, including both new installations and returning favorites, creating a magical outdoor winter experience. Tickets for the event are now on sale at bbg.org/lightscape.
This year’s Lightscape promises exciting new features, including a reimagined light show and expanded culinary offerings. Along the trail, guests will encounter spectacular installations like the iconic Winter Cathedral by Mandylights, and new pieces such as Ribbon Tunnel by Culture Creative, which immerses visitors in a mesmerizing array of multicolored lights. The popular Winter Reflections installation will once again cover Cherry Esplanade, now enhanced with a towering contemporary tree sculpture. The illuminated fountain at the Japanese Hill-and-Pond Garden also returns, offering an enchanting water display that has been redesigned for 2024.
Lightscape offers a variety of ticket options to suit all visitors. In addition to regular and value-night tickets, the event introduces special 21+ nights on December 12 and 19, where adult guests can enjoy mulled wine and other festive drinks. The sensory-friendly early entry sessions on December 18 and January 3 cater to individuals with disabilities or sensory sensitivities, providing a quieter, more relaxed atmosphere. These accommodations reflect Brooklyn Botanic Garden’s commitment to creating an inclusive and enjoyable experience for all visitors.
Beyond the lights, the culinary experience at Lightscape is equally impressive. The expanded Lightscape Lodge at Yellow Magnolia Café will offer winter specials curated by Union Square Events and Restaurant Associates, including seasonal classics, specialty cocktails, and a delightful children’s menu. The Palm House will debut its Lightscape Bar, where guests can warm up with spiked hot chocolate, mulled wine, and other beverages. Along the trail, visitors can indulge in handheld treats, hot cider, and more, adding to the festive atmosphere.
On December 10, Brooklyn Botanic Garden will host a special Lightscape Family Benefit, a magical evening where families can enjoy the illuminated trail while supporting the Garden’s youth education programs. This annual fundraiser offers a memorable holiday experience for children and parents alike, complete with trailside treats and stunning displays of lights. As always, Lightscape promises to be one of the city’s most spectacular winter attractions, blending art, nature, and holiday cheer into an unforgettable event.
