Earth Day Music Performance by the Knickerbocker Chamber Orchestra at Brookfield Place’ Winter Garden
April 22, 2023
7:00 – 8:30 pm
Winter Garden, Brookfield Place by the World Trade Center in Lower Manhattan
The Knickerbocker Chamber Orchestra will perform a free concert in the Winter Garden at Brookfield Place for Earth Day. The concert, Music of Our Sphere, celebrates the beauty of nature and the connection between humanity and the universe. The program includes a world premiere of a cantata by Gary S. Fagin, inspired by Rachel Carson’s words, and a conversation with Carl Safina, a MacArthur Fellow.
The cantata, “In Every Grain of Sand”, takes its title from a quote by Carson, the author of Silent Spring, a book that sparked the environmental movement. The concert also features excerpts from Aaron Copland’s “The Tender Land”, Gustav Mahler’s Symphony No. 3, Kurt Weill’s musical Lost in the Stars, and Johann Strauss Jr.’s “Voices of Spring Waltz”. As the event concludes, the audience is invited to waltz under the Winter Garden palms.
