The Brooklyn Pride Parade is the third such parade to be organized in New York City after those in Manhattan and Queens. The first Brooklyn Pride Parade took place on Saturday, June 14, 1997, in Park Slope, a popular residential neighborhood for lesbians. The parade was co-chaired by Sonia Galarza and Jerry Allred, who also organized a festival in nearby Prospect Park. The gathering point for the first parade was J.J. Byrne Park (now Washington Park) at the corner of 5th Avenue and 3rd Street. The parade has grown over the years and in 2022, over 60 organizations participated in the largest Brooklyn Pride Parade in history.
