One of New York City’s most cherished summer traditions returns as Free Shakespeare in the Park presents William Shakespeare’s TWELFTH NIGHT, directed by The Public’s Associate Artistic Director and Tony Award nominee Saheem Ali. This joyous and whimsical tale brings to life the midsummer madness of twins separated by shipwreck, mistaken identities, mischievous plots, and the ever-twisting tricks of love. Set under the stars in Central Park’s iconic Delacorte Theater, the production welcomes all New Yorkers to experience the magic of live theater — free of charge.
This summer marks a special milestone, as TWELFTH NIGHT will be the first production staged at The Delacorte following its highly anticipated renovation. After serving as the beloved home of Free Shakespeare in the Park for over 62 years, the theater reopens better than ever — more accessible, sustainable, and welcoming to audiences citywide. The revitalized venue ensures that Shakespeare’s timeless works remain a vital part of New York’s cultural landscape for generations to come.
Adding to the excitement is an extraordinary cast led by acclaimed stars Lupita Nyong’o, Peter Dinklage, Sandra Oh, and others. Their performances promise to bring fresh life and humor to this classic story, inviting audiences of all ages to revel in the enchanting and comedic world of Illyria.
