2024 J.P. Morgan Tournament of Champions Squash Competition
January 18 – 25, 2024
Grand Central Terminal, Vanderbilt Hall
Pro Squash, one of the fastest, toughest and most dynamic racquet sports in the world, returns to Grand Central Terminal for the 26th year this coming January 18th to 25th. The 2024 J.P. Morgan Tournament of Champions sets up around an all glass show court in Vanderbilt Hall and brings all the world’s best male and female players to the heart of the city.
The roots of the Tournament of Champions (commonly referred to as the “ToC”) go back to 1930 when the tournament was created as a competition for professional players, coaches and teachers. Since then, the annual tournament has been held in 22 different cities, including 38 editions in New York City. The status of the iconic “major” international championship is burnished this year by the addition of a perpetual trophy created by world renown American artist (and squash player) Frank Stella.
Hundreds of thousands of passersby will have a chance to witness the sport at its highest level on their commute through Grand Central with the tournament’s unique free front wall viewing, while squash fans can guarantee their seats today by purchasing tickets at tocsquash.com.
One of eight PSA World Tour Platinum events in the 2023-2024 season, the ToC will offer equal prize money for men and women with a record total compensation of $440,000. The tournament’s longstanding official non-profit beneficiaries are StreetSquash and CitySquash, after-school programs providing public students with academic support, tutoring, mentoring, squash instruction and community service opportunities.
Tournament owner and director John Nimick, “The ToC’s unique location in Grand Central Terminal and mix of free viewing and reserved seating allows us to present this great sport to thousands of new fans. The international players love the event because the galleries are always full and commuters and visitors pack the standing room section at the front wall. Squash is very popular in the New York area and is growing throughout the nation and the ToC is the beacon that brings together all this positive energy.”
Last year, Egypt’s Nour El Sherbini, 25, made history by becoming the first four-time women’s champion, equaling the men’s record-setting four titles earned in the modern era by Canadian star Jonathon Power from 1996 to 2002. South American superstar Diego Elias, 26, of Peru won his first ToC title last year, a PSA World Tour victory that boosted the “Peruvian Puma” to the World No. 1 ranking in May 2023. Elias is likely to meet current World No. 1 and two-time ToC Champion Ali Farag of Egypt in the final, if the two rivals uphold their seedings. The official entry list and draws will be released in early December.
Off court, the ToC will celebrate its annual Women’s Leadership program benefiting the College Squash Association on Thursday, January 18. During the 200+ person luncheon at the Yale Club of NYC, legendary Princeton Women’s Coach Gail Ramsay will be honored with the 2024 Tournament of Champions Women’s Leadership Award.
Squash fans can take advantage of group discounts and special sessions at the ToC including Dunlop Kids Day, Ladies Night, and the JP Morgan Fan Experience.
