NY Governor Cuomo Announces Greater Expansion on Reopenings

The Governor today announced that increases in the amounts of attendance capacity for various venues and events will increase in the days and weeks ahead.

The news comes as the daily and 7-day COVID-19 positivity numbers continued to decrease and as ever increasing numbers of New Yorkers become vaccinated against the virus.

According to the Governor, movie theater capacity will increase to 33 percent beginning April 26. Also on that day, museums, aquariums, zoos and Botanical Garden capacity will increase to 50 percent. Large-Scale Arenas and Event Venue Capacity Will Increase to 25 Percent Beginning May 19

“New Yorkers should be encouraged by the incredible progress they have made in reducing the infection rate and getting vaccinated,” Governor Cuomo said. “While we are not yet out of the woods, thanks to the hard work of New Yorkers, we have been able to safely re-open more facets of our economy. The light at the end of the tunnel has never been brighter and we must all remain vigilant and continue to practice the behaviors we know work to stop COVID in its tracks – wear a mask, wash your hands and social distance.”
