Oratorio Society Of Queens Sings Mozart’s REQUIEM and Vivaldi’s GLORIA at Annual Spring Concert

May 19, 2019 At 4:00 pm

At Our Lady Queen Of Martyrs R. C. Church

Maestro DAVID CLOSE leads ORATORIO SOCIETY OF QUEENS and The Orchestral Ensemble of Queens

The Oratorio Society of Queens (OSQ) performs W.A. Mozart’s Requiem, Antonio Vivaldi’s Gloria and

Vivaldi’s Concerto No. 1, Spring from “The Four Seasons” on Sunday, May 19, 2019 at 4:00 pm at Our Lady Queen of Martyrs R. C. Church, Forest Hills, New York.

As a hallmark of the vibrant arts community in Queens, OSQ will perform with its 125-plus member chorus under the direction of Maestro David Close featuring soloists and OSQ’s orchestra, the Orchestral Arts Ensemble of Queens.

Did Mozart write the Requiem in anticipation of his own demise? Or was that just a 19th century legend? Who knows for sure? Come and hear this most beloved of choral works by one of history’s greatest musical geniuses and see if you can answer the question yourself with some help from the Oratorio Society of Queens!

A masterpiece of the Italian Baroque, Vivaldi’s Gloria remained little known until its revival by Alfredo Casella during “Vivaldi Week” in 1939 and has become a favorite with choruses and audiences worldwide. It is a sparkling and joyful work that will have you almost dancing!

Our Lady Queen of Martyrs R. C. Church is located at 110-06 Queens Boulevard, Forest Hills, NY, 11375. On-street parking available.

Advance Sale Tickets are $40; $35 for seniors (62+) and students with ID; $10 for children (12 and under) accompanied by an adult. Tickets on the day of the concert will be $40 at the box office; $10 for children (12 and under) accompanied by an adult. About the NYC Cannabis Parade & Rally

The New York City Cannabis Parade & Rally (NYCCPR) is among the longest running marijuana legalization events in the world. What began as a “Smoke-In” in Washington Square Park organized by the Yippies in 1973 has evolved into a two-part Event: A Parade down Broadway and a Rally in Union Square Park, all on the first Saturday in May. Sister events take place in more than 300 cities worldwide on the same day. NYCCPR is the founding chapter of the Global Marijuana March.

The event’s mission is to end the prohibition of cannabis at all levels – international, federal, state and local. Ten states have legalized marijuana since 2012. New York and New Jersey are both on paths to legalization. Thirty-three states allow access to medical marijuana, including New York, New Jersey and Connecticut. By June, perhaps New York will pass legislation.

These factors make this year’s Parade & Rally all the more important. New York has come a long way from when 50,000 residents were being arrested a year for marijuana possession. Arrests are down and policy has changed since last year. Now the goal is complete legalization, with a fair and equitable commercial marketplace, like in California and Massachusetts.

Please note: Final Parade & Rally details are subject to change by NYPD and New York City Parks Department.

This annual, highly anticipated event draws multitudes of attendees as we all gather in celebration of the season, the beautiful blossoms from/of the cherry trees and enjoy all the many Japanese cultural offerings.

From taiko drumming, other musical performances (indie , punk, pop genres and others), martial arts demonstrations to dance performances, Kabuki Buyo dance and much more.

One needs a ticket for either or both days and you can head on over to the official website to learn more.  Members of the garden, as is the case with many other venues, get discounted access. Students and seniors get discounts as well.

Also, visit this page at the NYC Department of Parks and Recreation for info as well.

Please do keep in mind how this is merely a special event taking place over two days. You can always visit the garden on other days to experience the luscious pinks of the cherry blossoms as they’ll be in bloom for a period of time. We’ve done it repeatedly, paying close attention to the one day of the week when admission is free. Be sure to visit their site for details in that regard.
