2019 Feast of San Gennaro in Little Italy, NYC

September 12 – 22, 2019

The festivities are held along Mulberry Street from Canal to Houston Streets, as well as on Hester and Grand Streets between Mott and Baxter Streets.

This festival has always been a favorite of yours truly as well as of so many other New Yorkers.

Annual Feast of San Gennaro, Food, games, rides, concessions, entertainment, parade, and religious procession at this well-loved festival in Little Italy. Indoor and outdoor dining at 35 of Little Italy’s most famous Italian restaurants. More than 300 licensed street vendors selling international foods, and souvenirs.

The street festivities – including parades, entertainment, food stands and a cannoli-eating contest – are capped on with a celebratory Mass and candlelit procession as the Statue of the Saint is carried from its permanent home in Most Precious Blood Church on Mulberry Street.

BTW, if you’re a merchant interested in participating at the festival then have a look at Mort & Ray’s website to learn about applications, costs and such.

South Street Seaport Museum
Expands Schedule for
Public Cruises on W.O. Decker

Wednesdays – Sundays
Through September

The South Street Seaport Museum announces an expanded schedule for the public cruises on Tugboat W.O. Decker. Take a 60-minute ride on New York’s last remaining New-York-built wooden tugboat and see the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island and the lower Manhattan skyline as never before. Decker will cruise past Governor’s Island with Battery Park, One World Trade Center and all of the lower Manhattan skyline as a backdrop and head to the Statue of Liberty for stunning harbor views. This May marked the first time Decker was available for public cruises in nearly a decade, now with an expanded schedule: Wed-Friday: 2pm and 7pm. Sat & Sun: 1:30pm, 3pm, 4:30pm and 7pm. Decker Tours are $35 and include admission to the Museum. Cruises can be booked in advance at https://web.ovationtix.com/trs/pr/1011575.

Tickets for a cruise plus Museum Admission are $35 ($29 for seniors and students, $15 for children 10 and up) The 7pm cruises do not include admission and are $25. Museum tickets alone are $20 ($14 for seniors and students, children under 8 NOW FREE) and can be purchased at www.southstreetseaportmuseum.org. The South Street Seaport Museum is located at 12 Fulton Street, NY, NY 10038.

W.O. Decker, the last remaining New-York built wooden tugboat, was built in 1930 by the Newtown Creek Towing Company and originally named Russell I,after the towing company’s owners. She was renamed W.O. Decker in 1946 after being sold to the Decker family’s Staten Island tugboat firm. The tugboat was donated to the Seaport Museum in 1986. Decker is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is an exemplary model of the types of steam tugs that were once an abundant sight in New York Harbor. This unique vessel is a true testament to New York City’s maritime heritage, which is a direct factor in the city’s global prominence today.

ABOUT SOUTH STREET SEAPORT MUSEUM

The South Street Seaport Museum, located in the heart of the historic seaport district in New York City, preserves and interprets the history of New York as a great port city. Founded in 1967, and designated by Congress as America’s National Maritime Museum, the Museum houses an extensive collection of works of art and artifacts, a maritime reference library, exhibition galleries and education spaces, working nineteenth century print shops, and an active fleet of historic vessels that all work to tell the story of “Where New York Begins.”

Nathan Hale Day Commemoration

Friday, September 20, 2019
12:00 – 1:00 pm

This Event is Free and Open to the Public

City Hall Park, NYC

Join the Sons of the Revolution in the State of New York, Inc. as they commemorate martyred spy Nathan Hale at the foot of the Nathan Hale statue which stands at City Hall Park. The ceremony features the SRNY Color Guard, wreath laying, and more.

Nathan Hale was commissioned by George Washington to infiltrate the British ranks to gather intelligence. He was discovered on September 22, 1776 and hanged for treason, without trial, the next morning.

The Nathan Hale Commemoration Ceremony takes place in City Hall Park near the statue of Nathan Hale that was commissioned by the Sons of the Revolution in 1883 and stands facing the south main entrance to City Hall. Click HERE to see the exact location on Google Maps.  To enter the park, you may enter the secure area from either the west or east gate of Steve Flanders Square, which is on the south side of the City Hall building.  Everyone who enters will have to walk through a metal detector and have any bags scanned by an x-ray machine. Look for chairs set up where the commemoration is to take place.

New Museum Presents IdeasCity Bronx – 2019
Sep 21 all-day

New Museum Presents

IdeasCity Bronx

Saturday, September 21

A free public festival at Concrete Plant Park in the Bronx

New York, NY…The New Museum is pleased to announce IdeasCity Bronx, a free public festival taking place the afternoon of Saturday, September 21, 2019, at Concrete Plant Park in the Bronx.

IdeasCity Bronx will feature conversations, artist talks, performances, and activations by an array of cultural agents engaging the physical, social, and economic forces that define the Bronx and other cities. Highlights will include keynote conversations by Teddy Cruz and Fonna Forman and Jon Gray of Ghetto Gastro, and a series of participatory workshops organized by Xaviera Simmons, Torkwase Dyson, Oscar Oliver-Didier, Coco June, Marquita Flowers, and Monxo López and Libertad Guerra of South Bronx Unite. Pop-up activations by Bronx-based art and activist groups and food vendors will operate throughout the afternoon, organized with DreamYard, a nationally recognized community organization that works with Bronx youth, families, and schools to build pathways to equity through the arts.

Themed New Ecologies 3755, this iteration of IdeasCity focuses on the effects of climate change faced by communities in the Bronx, and the inextricable link between the conditions of our planet and the state of culture and society. IdeasCity has invited locally and internationally recognized practitioners to design interactive workshops focused on key areas of inquiry pertaining to the theme of New Ecologies. Workshops are centered on topics ranging from Waterfront De-Industrialization, Divesting from Whiteness, Borders and Migration, Housing Production and Preservation, Public Health and Pleasure, and Food Justice, and highlights include a somatic movement workshop on strategizing Resources for Resistance, storytelling performances combating Food Apartheid through agricultural autonomy, and a livestream conversation on the Architecture of Diaspora between South Bronx activists and allied groups in Santurce, Puerto Rico.

“The number 3755 refers to the 3,755 days between IdeasCity Bronx and the start of 2030, noted internationally as the deadline for irreversible climate crisis. The number also evokes a distant future, over a millennium away, one that we might imagine shaped by the Bronx and by communities that were erased or marginalized in the last millennium,” stated V. Mitch McEwen, Curator of IdeasCity. “Inspired by the urgency around climate change, artists and organizations in the Bronx are working to address structural inequality, real estate development models, and even national politics, topics that will take center stage at IdeasCity Bronx.”

Prior to the festival, IdeasCity will release a podcast produced in collaboration with Gesso, members of NEW INC, the New Museum’s cultural incubator, who have developed a free location-based mobile app for innovative audio content. The podcast is designed to accompany visitors en route to the festival, expanding on the program’s themes with additional information, conversations, and interviews with IdeasCity Bronx speakers and community leaders.

On Friday, September 20, 2019, IdeasCity and the Bronx Museum of the Arts will cohost a workshop for local and emerging practitioners that will consider the inequalities produced and reproduced by urban spatial relationships, and the shifting approaches devised by artists, designers, planners, and architects engaging with public space in the Bronx’s contemporary landscape.

IdeasCity Bronx will be held at Concrete Plant Park, located on the Bronx River between Westchester Avenue and Bruckner Boulevard. Home to a functioning concrete plant from the late 1940s to 1987, Concrete Plant Park’s revitalization began in 2000 under the stewardship of the Parks Department and the Bronx River Alliance. In addition to salt marshes, greenways, a promenade, and boat-launch, Concrete Plant Park is also home to the Bronx Foodway, a pilot project examining how a sustainable food landscape can be integrated into a public park.

IdeasCity Bronx follows IdeasCity New Orleans, which took place in April 2019 and was centered on the theme of “Everyday Festival,” and IdeasCity Toronto, which took place in September 2018 and was centered on the theme of “City of Cities.”

ABOUT IDEASCITY

IdeasCity is a collaborative, civic, and creative platform that starts from the premise that art and culture are essential to the future vitality of cities. This international initiative provides a forum for designers, artists, technologists, and policymakers to exchange ideas, identify challenges, propose solutions, and engage the public’s participation. The initiative was cofounded at the New Museum by Lisa Phillips, Toby Devan Lewis Director, and Karen Wong, Deputy Director. Past IdeasCity programs have taken place in New York (2011, 2013, 2015, and 2017), Istanbul (2012), São Paulo (2013), Detroit (2016), Athens (2016), Arles (2017), Toronto (2018), and New Orleans (2019). For more information, visit ideas-city.org.

ABOUT NEW MUSEUM

The New Museum is the only museum in New York City exclusively devoted to contemporary art. Founded in 1977, the New Museum is a center for exhibitions, information, and documentation about living artists from around the world. From its beginnings as a one-room office on Hudson Street to the inauguration of its first freestanding building on the Bowery designed by SANAA in 2007, the New Museum continues to be a place of experimentation and a hub of new art and new ideas.

ABOUT DREAMYARD

DreamYard collaborates with Bronx youth, families, and schools to build pathways to equity and opportunity through the arts. Through partnerships with over fifty public schools in the Bronx, DreamYard Prep High School, and the DreamYard Art Center, DreamYard works with over 15,000 young people each year to develop the tools necessary to become creative and engaged citizens, life-long learners, and the leaders and innovators of the twenty-first century.

27th Annual London Terrace Street Fair

September 21, 2019
10:00 am – 5:00 pm
Rain or Shine!

West 24th St between 9th and 10th Avenue

Look below for their official flyer

The 27th Annual London Street Fair is coming up on Saturday, September 22, 2018.  We like to call ourselves “The Best Little Street Fair in Manhattan”.  It is not your usual commercially run fair.

There will be a myriad of vendors: artists selling their own work, dealers of antiques, clothing, jewelry, furniture, clothing, collectibles of all sorts, records/CDs/DVDs, comic books, tchotchkes (big and small), and a children’s face painter from 12 noon-3pm.  Adults are welcome for face painting as well, there is nothing like a grown man with cat whiskers and glitter.

The street fair will start at 10am and run till 5pm, and is on 24th Street between 9th and 10th Avenue.  Don’t forget the date either, Saturday September 21, 2019.  It is a neighborhood gathering, with families and friends spending time together beneath a canopy of trees, as the leaves are starting to change color.  We consider it our way of welcoming the Autumn season.  Those visiting New York from all over the world show up to see the neighborly hospitality that West Chelsea has to offer.

So, don’t think twice or make other plans.  This is the place to be, and all are welcome.  Hope to see you there!

German American Von Steuben Day Parade – New York City, NYC

Saturday, September 21, 2019

9:00 am

Steuben Parade Mass at St. Patrick’s Cathedral, Fifth Avenue at 50th Street

12:00 – 2:00 pm

Steuben Parade takes off from Fifth Avenue and 78th Street

Believe it or not this happens to be one of New Yorkled’s favorite parades. Every year when we get a chance we sneak on up to the steps in front of the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Prime Viewing! Oh no! I gave it away. Nonetheless, you should show up for this parade and get a glimpse of all the costumes, dancing, marching and music.

Steuben, Friedrich Wilhelm Ludolf Gerhard Augustin, Baron von (1730-94), Prussian-American general of the American revolutionary army, born in Magdeburg, Prussia (now Germany). He fought with distinction in the Seven Years’ War (1756-63) and arrived at Portsmouth, New Hampshire, in 1778, offering his services to Congress and to the Continental Army and its commander, George Washington. He was appointed inspector general, prepared a manual of tactics for the army, remodeled its organization, organized an efficient staff, and improved its discipline. In 1780 he sat on the court-martial of the British army officer Major John André, who was charged with espionage. In the same year he took part, as a major general, in the siege of Yorktown. After the war he received grants of land from several states, and finally Congress voted him a pension of $2400. He became an American citizen in 1783.

6:30 – 8:00 pm

The Great Hall of The Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art
7 East 7th Street, between Third and Fourth Avenues
New York, NY 10003

(6 to Astor Place/R-W to 8th Street)

MORE: Strand Book Store will sell books at the event and Sidney Blumenthal will sign copies following the discussion.

The event is free and open to the public. General public should reserve a space at http://bit.ly/sblincoln. Please note seating is on a first come basis; an RSVP does not guarantee admission as we generally overbook to ensure a full house.

During this free, open event, Sidney Blumenthal, the acclaimed author of two previous volumes on Abraham Lincoln, recounts Lincoln’s astonishing return from the political desert and ascent to the presidency, including his landmark speech at Cooper Union in February 1860. In the talk, Blumenthal discusses his latest book, All the Powers of Earth: The Political Life of Abraham Lincoln, 1856-1860 (Simon & Schuster) which is the third volume of a projected five-part work.

To fulfill his own burning ambition and become the unlikely savior of the Union, Lincoln had to first build a new national political party, confront the brilliant demagogue Stephen Douglas, and outmaneuver politicians of far greater standing. History is inevitably seen through the lens of the present moment, but Blumenthal’s account of Lincoln’s political life in the years immediately preceding the Civil War sounds remarkably contemporary. With All the Powers of Earth, Sidney Blumenthal carries the story of Lincoln’s political life through the most intense and crucial years yet, offering a penetrating and panoramic portrayal of American politics on the brink of the Civil War, and of the man who miraculously arose to lead the nation during its time of greatest trial.

Sidney Blumenthal is the acclaimed author of A Self-Made Man and Wrestling with His Angel, the first two volumes in his five-volume biography, The Political Life of Abraham Lincoln.  He is the former assistant and senior adviser to President Bill Clinton and senior adviser to Hillary Clinton.  He has been a national staff reporter for The Washington Post and Washington editor and writer for The New Yorker. His books include the bestselling The Clinton Wars, The Rise of the Counter-Establishment, and The Permanent Campaign.

South Street Seaport Museum Expands Schedule for Public Cruises on W.O. Decker @ South Street Seaport Museum

New York Handmade Collective (NYHC) Joins Grand Bazaar For “Hands-On!” Multi Crafts Demonstrations & Pop-Up Market

Sunday, September 29, 2019

Unique Fall shopping experience will feature live demos and a juried selection of one-of-a-kind, exclusively handcrafted, locally made, artisanal crafts and accessories.

The New York Handmade Collective (NYHC) — formerly known as the Etsy NY Street Team — in partnership with the Grand Bazaar NYC — will welcome Fall with hands-on, multi crafts demonstrations and a pop-up market. This unique shopping experience of live outdoor craft demos and a dynamic handcrafted product showcase of the NYHC’s local talent, will take place on Sunday, Sept. 29, from 10:00 am to 5:30 pm, at the popular shopping destination located at 100 West 77 Street and Columbus Avenue.

“Grand Bazaar NYC firmly believes in supporting local artists, designers and craft-makers, which helps keep our city vibrant and creative,” said Marc Seago, Executive Director at Grand Bazaar NYC. “We’re thrilled that the NY Handmade Collective will once again be joining us for this exciting Fall shopping experience.”

Shoppers will discover a diverse selection of outstanding, one-of-a-kind, exclusively handcrafted merchandise created by over 40 talented, multi-disciplined artisans and designers from the New York metropolitan area. The vast array of exceptional goods will run the gamut from fine art, eye-catching stationery, unusual jewelry, distinctive fashions, home decor and amazing skincare products to items for children and pets.

“This season’s new and improved market offers a rare opportunity to go behind-the-scenes, shop and watch the hands-on creation of unique products from our cadre of diverse, talented local artisans,” said Andi B. O’Connor, co-organizer. “Situated within the long-established Upper West Side market that is the Grand Bazaar NYC, the NYHC Show will highlight the value of quality handmade crafts in today’s society when so much is mass-produced and disposable.”

The Importance of Handmade

Recently NYHC surveyed over 200 artisans to gather impressions and data on the importance of quality handmade products. At this season’s show, NYHC will have a table with information and materials on this subject, staffed by members who can answer visitors’ questions. For example, creators of handcrafted goods are part of a community dedicated to connecting with customers and bringing back the personal touch that is so rare in today’s digital global marketplace.

Other survey findings:

Handmade products tend to be of higher quality, singular and authentic, reflecting rich cultures and traditions and an eco-friendly, sustainable, environmental awareness that is present in these artisans’ practices and processes. Handcrafted items also nurture creativity and individuality and perpetuate the art of crafting. In addition, handmade products are beautiful, one-of-a-kind and well-made. New York Butoh Institute Festival 19

October 10-27, 2019

at Theater for the New City

New York Butoh Institute presents the New York Butoh Institute Festival 19 from Thursday, October 10 through Sunday, October 27, 2019 at Theater for the New City. This year will mark the 60th anniversary of the Japanese performance art form butoh.

Curated by New York Butoh Institute’s founder Vangeline, the Festival will consist of an exciting program of Butoh workshops and masterclasses, as well as seven nights of groundbreaking performances presented at Theater for the New City. The festival will conclude on Sunday, October 27 with a lecture and short film celebrating the founder of butoh, Tatsumi Hijikata, and the 60 years of this historical and revolutionary art form as it continues to evolve into the 21st century.

The bold butoh performances being presented during the festival will feature 14 female dancers from Japan, Colombia, Norway, Italy, Germany, France, and the U.S. One of the pieces, Hijikata, Mon Amour, will be performed by Vangeline as an homage to butoh founder Tatsumi Hijikata. A highlight of the piece will be the costume Vangeline will wear: an exact replica of the bold red costume Tatsumi Hijikata wore in his legendary butoh performance of Tatsumi Hijikata and The Japanese-Revolt of the Flesh in 1968.

Thanks to a loan from the Tatsumi Hijikata Archives and a Janet Arnold Award from the Society of Antiquaries of London, the Festival is able to showcase the replica of this iconic costume worn by Tatsumi Hijikata in Revolt of the Flesh. Hijikata’s costume remains a totem for butoh-it holds secrets of the avant-garde art form.

Much like butoh itself, it was born at the confluence of East and West. This costume chronicles the evolution of postmodern art in Japan. The Festival will close with a short film of Tatsumi Hijikata in his 1968 solo, and a lecture with costume expert Todd Thomas who recreated the costume, and who will discuss his process, shedding light on how the original costume was designed and constructed. Prior to and during the presentation, the replica will be on display for audience members to see.

The New York Butoh Festival 19 will take place at Theater for the New City, 155 First Avenue, NYC. Thursday through Saturday October 17-19 and October 24-26 at 8pm, Sunday October 20 at 3pm, Sunday October 27 special event lecture at 3pm. Tickets are $18-$20, and can be purchased by phone at (212) 254-1109 or online at https://butohfest-19.eventbrite.com/. The lecture on Sunday, October 27 is free and open to the public.

Artists Featured:

Eri Chian (Osaka, Japan); Mari Osanai, (Aomori, Japan), Tove-Elena Nicolaysen (Chile/Norway), Salome Kokoladze (Georgia), Sindy Butz (Germany), Katherine Adamenko (USA), Madelyn Sher (USA), Angela Newsham (Hawai-USA), Melissa Lohman (Italy), Margherita Tisato (Italy), Yazmin Gonzalez (USA), Vangeline, (France), Lauren Farber (USA) and Brenda Polo (Colombia).

VANGELINE THEATER/NEW YORK BUTOH INSTITUTE aims to preserve the legacy and integrity of Japanese Butoh while carrying the art form well into the future. The unique art of Butoh originated in post- World War II Japan as a reaction to the loss of identity caused by the westernization of Japanese culture, as well as a realization that ancient Japanese performing traditions no longer spoke to a contemporary audience. One of the major developments in contemporary dance in the latter half of the 20th century, Butoh combines dance, theater, improvisation and influences of Japanese traditional performing arts to create a unique performing art form that is both controversial and universal in its expression. The Vangeline Theater is home to the New York Butoh Institute, dedicated to the advancement of Butoh in the 21st century. www.vangeline.com

Vangeline is a teacher, dancer, and choreographer specializing in the Japanese postwar avant-garde movement form Butoh. She is the artistic director of the Vangeline Theater (New York), a dance company firmly rooted in the tradition of Japanese Butoh while carrying it into the 21st century, and the founder of the New York Butoh Institute. Her work has been heralded in publications such as The New York Times (“captivating”), Los Angeles
Times, (“moves with the clockwork deliberation of a practiced Japanese Butoh artist”) and LA Weekly, to name a few. More recently her solo “Butoh Beethoven: Eclipse” received critical acclaim from the Ballet Review.

Vangeline is a 2018 NYFA/ NYSCA Artist Fellow in Choreography. She is also the winner of the 2015 Gibney Dance’s Beth Silverman-Yam Social Action Award. Film projects include a starring role alongside actors James Franco and Winona Ryder in the 2012 feature film The Letter, written and directed by Jay Anania, She has performed with/for Grammy Award-winning artists SKRILLEX and Esperanza Spalding. She is the author of a forthcoming book about butoh and looks forward to curating the second New York Butoh Institute Festival 19 this October.

THEATER FOR THE NEW CITY (TNC) is a Pulitzer Prize-winning community cultural center that is known for its high artistic standards and widespread community service. One of New York’s most prolific theatrical organizations, TNC produces 30-40 premieres of new American plays per year, at least 10 of which are by emerging and young playwrights. Many influential theater artists of the last quarter century have found TNC’s Resident Theater Program instrumental to their careers, among them Sam Shepard, Moises Kaufman, Richard Foreman, Charles Busch, Maria Irene Fornes, Miguel Piñero, Jean-Claude van Itallie, Vin Diesel, Oscar Nuñez, Laurence Holder, Romulus Linney and Academy Award winners Tim Robbins and Adrien Brody. TNC also presents plays by multi-ethnic/multi-disciplinary theater companies who have no permanent home. Among the well-known companies that have been presented by TNC are Mabou Mines, the Living Theater, Bread and Puppet Theater, the San Francisco Mime Troupe, and COBU, the Japanese women’s drumming, and dance group. TNC also produced the Yangtze Repertory Company’s 1997 production of Between Life and Death, which was the only play ever produced in America by Gao Xingjian before he won the 2000 Nobel Prize for Literature. TNC seeks to develop theater audiences and inspire future theater artists from the often-overlooked low-income minority communities of New York City by producing minority writers from around the world and by bringing the community into theater and theater into the community through its many free festivals. TNC productions have won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama and over 42 OBIE Awards for excellent in every theatrical discipline. TNC is the only Theatrical Organization to have won the Mayor’s Stop The Violence award.

All Hallows Eve: A Wild, Eclectic Horror Musical with Puppets @ The Connelly Theater
Oct 18 @ 8:00 pm – Nov 2 @ 8:00 pm

All Hallows Eve: A Wild, Eclectic Horror Musical with Puppets

October 18 – November 2, 2019

At the The Connelly Theater
220 E 4th St

A wild, horror musical journey across the grey veil on a Halloween night, testing a sister’s and brother’s love against the forces of true evil, with book, lyrics and puppet design by Martin P. Robinson (Little Shop of Horrors; “Sesame Street”) and music by Paul Rudolph (Emmy Award-winning composer, “Sesame Street”, “GLANK”).
Mr. Robinson directs a cast of ten from the casts of “Sesame Street,” Avenue Q and “Little Shop…” and other iconic productions, including Jennifer Barnhart* (Avenue Q, “Sesame Street,” “Julie’s Greenroom”), Tyler Bunch* (“Julie’s Greenroom”, “The Tick”), Aubrey Clinedinst (Dario Fo, The Swedish Cottage Marionette Theatre), Austin Michael Costello (“Sesame Street”), Cedwan Hooks (Award-winning puppet designer); Haley Jenkins (“Sesame Street”, The Pee-Wee Herman Show), Kathleen Kim (“A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood” with Tom Hanks, “Sesame Street”), Marca Leigh* (“The Muppets”), Spencer Lott (“A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood” with Tom Hanks, “Sesame Street”), and Kaitee Yaeko Tredway (Avenue Q).

Eve and Evan are twins roped into yet another desperately dull Halloween by their parents. Managing to break free, they maraud, pumpkin-smash and toilet-paper, inadvertently crossing the thin line between worlds on this night of all nights. They enter a house and meet a demoness who has been lying in wait for just such a pair. A harrowing cat-and-mouse game ensues with the stakes being nothing less than their immortal souls. All Hallows Eve is a tale wrapped up in horror, comedy, and blood…and definitely not for young children.

Producers: Martin P. Robinson, Annie Evans and Jean Marie Keevins; Scenic Designers: Christopher Swader and Justin Swader; Lighting Designer: Alex Jainchill; Choreographer: Kaitee Yaeko Tredway; Public Relations: Paul Siebold/Off Off PR.

Tickets are: $30. For more information, visit AllHallowsEveMusical.com.

The runtime is approximately 80 minutes with no intermission.

Sixteen performances will be staged from October 18-November 2nd, 2019 on the following schedule: Wednesdays-Fridays at 8:00 p.m.; Saturdays at 7:00 p.m. & 10:00 p.m.; Sundays at 3:00 p.m.; plus, Monday, October 21st at 7:00 p.m.

All Hallows Eve began as a twenty-minute Guest Artist Project for the 2013 National Puppetry Conference, followed by a first version of the entire piece during a two-week residency in February 2018, both at the O’Neill Theater Center and with the support of The Jim Henson Foundation.

In Japan, the practice of shinrin-yoku, or “forest bathing” is hailed for its therapeutic effects. Proponents believe that by simply immersing ourselves in the atmosphere of a forest, we can soak in the healing power of trees. In a fast-paced world, forest bathing is a chance to be mindful of our surroundings, and to connect with nature through our senses.

At this talk, Dr. Yoshifumi Miyazaki, former deputy director of Chiba University’s Center for Environment, Health, and Field Sciences and author of Shinrin Yoku: The Japanese Art of Forest Bathing, examines the scientific evidence behind the concept of forest bathing and its potential to enhance wellness and happiness. Discover how you can connect with nature through this Japanese tradition, wherever you live.
