The first museum of its kind in North America, the Museum of Sex opened to the public in October 2002 with the inaugural exhibition, “NYC Sex: How New York City Transformed Sex in America,” with the launch of its second major exhibition, “Sex Among the Lotus: 2500 Years of Chinese Erotic Obsession” in March 2004.

The Museum continues its mission to present visitors with an exceptional rotating series of informative, educational and entertaining exhibitions that bring sexuality worldwide to the forefront of discussion. Current exhibits include “Vamps & Virgins: The Evolution of American Pinup Photography 1860-1960,” “Stags, Smokers and Blue Movies: The Origins of American Pornographic Film,” and an ongoing gallery spotlight on the Museum’s permanent collections.
