Dine with a View: Two Hours on the Hudson with North River Lobster
New York City boasts a skyline unlike any other, and what better way to experience its grandeur than from the water? Recently, me and my associate had the pleasure of cruising down the Hudson River aboard the North River Lobster Company‘s 2-hour dinner cruise. This experience offered not only delicious food and friendly service but also stunning, up-close views of iconic landmarks, all bathed in the warm glow of a setting sun.
Our 7:00 pm cruise perfectly coincided with the sunset, painting the sky with vibrant hues as we sailed down the Hudson. We opted for indoor seating on the second floor, allowing for comfortable viewing through large windows on both sides of the vessel. However, the real treat came later as we ventured to the open-air top deck for breathtaking nighttime vistas of the Statue of Liberty, the illuminated Manhattan skyline, and the majestic Empire State Building. While the evening air carried a chill (temperatures dipped into the low 50s), the atmosphere remained lively and enjoyable.
The North River Lobster Company certainly offers hearty portions. While not overflowing, they were certainly adequate and left us comfortably satisfied. We enjoyed a delectable spread that included Truffle Parmesan Fries, a Lower East Side Lobster Roll, classic Buffalo Wings (six pieces), and a deceivingly hefty Classic Burger loaded with cheese. Each dish was well-prepared and bursting with flavor. Beverage options ranged from soft drinks to cocktails, and my personal recommendation goes to their Frozen Ice Blue Margaritas. Perfectly balanced and refreshing, they were some of the best frozen margaritas I’ve had.
Now, let’s address the elephant in the room – the price. As evidenced by the menu included on this page, the cruise isn’t the most budget-friendly option. However, for those seeking a unique and memorable dining experience with stunning city views, the North River Lobster Company delivers. If you’ve the means &/or you’re simply wanting to splurge, then we’d highly recommend this cruise.
An interesting cost-saving option they offer is the “Season Pass Club” for $45. This pass grants access to both the North River Lobster Company and its sister vessel, La Barca Cantina, throughout the season, eliminating boarding fees. La Barca also offers a tempting “Bottomless Brunch Cruise” for $99, featuring an all-you-can-eat brunch menu paired with bottomless Mimosas and Bellinis. You might want to have a look at our recent review of our time aboard that boat.
Ultimately, the North River Lobster Company‘s 2-hour dinner cruise is an experience ideal for special occasions or simply treating yourself to a night of delicious food, breathtaking scenery, and a touch of New York City magic. While the price tag might be on the steeper side, the hearty portions, friendly service, and unforgettable views make it a worthwhile splurge. Just remember, for photography enthusiasts like me, this nighttime cruise offers unparalleled opportunities to capture the city’s iconic landmarks in a whole new light.
