Henry Hudson Bridge in Upper Manhattan, New York City

Henry Hudson Bridge

Connecting the Spuyten Duyvil section of The Bronx with the northern end of Manhattan.

Built and opened in 1936, this steel-arch bridge has some real fantastic views! ‘As a matter of fact, you could also get some great views of it from Inwood Hill Park and Baker Field. With a length of 2,209 feet, it spans across the Hudson River from Inwood Hill Park in Manhattan to the Henry Hudson Parkway West in the Bronx, just south of 227th St.

Two levels exist on this bridge and YES! us pedestrians are allowed to cross on the western side of the lower roadway. I didn’t find this out ’till recently and just the other day got to cross it. It’s worth the trouble to go and see this bridge only if you’re in the area. Otherwise, go, view and cross the Brooklyn or George Washington Bridges.

Construction Duration: 1935-1936
Total Length (including approaches): 2,209 feet
# of Traffic Lanes: 7
Total Steel used in Structure: over 9,000 tons
Cost to build: $4.5 million
Clearance above water: 143 feet
