Goethals Bridge


The Goethals Bridge which crosses over the Arthur Kill (a strait separating the borough of Staten Island from the state of New Jersey) connects Elizabeth, New Jersey to Staten Island near the Howland Hook Marine Terminal.

Construction this bridge began on September 1, 1925 at a cost of $7.2 million with an opening on June 29, 1928.
