World Premiere of Caleb Teicher’s “Variations”

    Thursday, September 29, 2016 at 7:30 pm

Variations, a new work blending traditional American dance forms in a modern context by 2011 Bessie Award-winning performer Caleb Teicher, will be performed as part of the CUNY Dance Initiative on Thursday, September 29, 2016 at 7:30 p.m. at the Kupferberg Center for the Arts at Queens College, 65-30 Kissena Blvd, Flushing, NY. Variations is set to Glenn Gould’s iconic 1955 recording of Bach’s “Goldberg Variations,” with dancers Elizabeth Burke, Gabe Winns Ortiz, and Byron Tittle joining Teicher onstage for this captivating new interpretation of a classic. Taking inspirations from his background in concert dance, musical theater, and social dance, Teicher’s work addresses questions of how and why we dance in the 21st century. Tickets are $15 for general admission, $10 for seniors, and $5 for students, and can be purchased at the Box Office or http://kupferbergcenter.org/events/caleb-teicher-company-variations-world-premiere.

The CUNY Dance Initiative (CDI) provides affordable rehearsal space to New York City choreographers and dance companies, master classes, and hosts performances open to the public. In 2016, 12 CUNY colleges in all five boroughs are hosting 23 artists from emerging choreographers to established dance companies. For more information: visit http://www.cuny.edu/danceinitiative.
