View The Solar Eclipse At The Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum

Monday, August 21

The Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum will host a day of public programming tied to the historic solar eclipse on Monday, August 21 at the Intrepid Museum located at Pier 86 (46th Street and 12th Avenue). Programming begins at noon and the eclipse itself begins at 1:23 p.m. and reaches its maximum at 2:44 p.m. Though New York City is not in the path of totality, the moon will cover 71% of the sun.

Guests will be able to get a clear view of this rare cosmic event on the Intrepid’s Flight Deck from noon to 4 p.m.  Museum educators and tour guides will be on hand to explain the science behind the eclipse and offer looks in the Museum’s solar telescopes. Free NASA-approved eclipse glasses, which can be used to watch the eclipse safely, will be distributed while supplies last.

Guests can also view NASA’s live coverage of the path of totality in the Museum’s theater.

All solar eclipse programming is free with Museum admission.
