The U.S. Army Celebrates 240th Birthday in New York City in Times Square

Gen. Ray T. Odierno, 38th Chief of Staff of the Army, will host the 240th U.S. Army Birthday Celebration in Times Square, New York City.
Soldiers from the 3rd U.S. Infantry Regiment (The Old Guard) elite units – The U.S. Army Old Guard Fife and Drum Corps, The U.S. Army Drill Team; Soldier-musicians from The U.S. Army Band “Pershing’s Own” Downrange, and the U.S. Military Academy West Point Band will rekindle the patriotic spirit with musical performances and demonstrations.

Presentation of Proclamation; Brig. Gen. (Ret.) Loree Sutton, M.D., New York City Mayor’s Office of Veterans Affairs commissioner, presents the New York City proclamation, declaring June 12 “United States Army Day” in the City of New York.
Future Soldier Swearing-In ceremony; 100 young men and women from the New York area will enlist in the Army.
Official birthday cake-cutting ceremony; cake provided by “Cake Boss” Buddy Valastro, Carlo’s Bakery.
