The Cuban word for friendship is asere. In their inaugural tour of North America, the Havana Cuba All-Stars, some of Cuba’s greatest and most prominent living musicians, have brought asere in abundance. Drawing their inspiration from traditional Cuban Son, they have developed a fresh sound with inventive songwriting while preserving the traditions of the Cuban musical art form.
From the familiar cha cha cha rhythm that inspired the world, to contemporary narratives on today’s Cuba, “Cuban Nights” is an eclectic yet intimate collection of Son sounds revealing the rich Cuban tapestry of music that includes Latin, European and African roots as well as influences from Caribbean neighbors Haiti and Jamaica.
