Hundreds of cyclists of all religious backgrounds, some in preparation for the Sunday’s Bike New York/Five Boro Bike Tour, will kick off the biking season at the annual Blessing of the Bicycles celebration on Saturday, May 5, 2018 at 9:30 am inside the Cathedral of St. John the Divine, located at 1047 Amsterdam Avenue (at 112th Street), Manhattan.

Reverend Julia E. Whitworth, Canon for Liturgy and the Arts at the Cathedral, will officiate the ceremony during which she will offer a blessing to jump start a safe cycling season and sprinkle Holy Water on each bicycle. After the blessing, there will be a moment of silence to remember the cyclists lost in the past year. Everyone will then ring their bicycle bells in celebration of the cycling season to come.
