A tightly curated selection of 45 international exhibitors will make up the first New York edition of Superfine!, the Miami-based contemporary art fair known for focusing on accessibly-priced artwork geared towards both savvy entry-level collectors and seasoned art aficionados.

The fair’s affordable structure along with compact and concept-driven booths allow galleries to break from white box art fair norms by presenting new bodies of work by their represented artists as well as work by the younger, more emerging artists in their programs. Paris-based Galerie 55Bellechasse will showcase new work from Pascal Vochelet, one of the French gallery’s most sought-after artists, alongside works by newer, less-exposed artists. Providence’s AU2, an offshoot of Aureus Contemporary, will also bring international flair with whimsical works by gallery artists Philip Sladek and William P Immer, both painters hailing from London. BoxHeart Gallery brings with it from Pittsburgh a homegrown essence with the signature destroyed architecture collage works of Seth Clark, who was named 2015’s Pittsburgh Emerging Artist of the Year. ClampArt, a Chelsea stalwart known for showing a broad array of emerging and mid-career artists, will feature a solo presentation of charming fauxnaïve paintings by Beacon-based artist Scott Daniel Ellison.

Attendee and collector experience is key at Superfine! and the fair once again breaks from art fair norms by featuring unconventional curatorial programs not often seen in the fair context. Noox, based in Mexico City with a residency program in Mérida on the Yucatan peninsula, will feature accessibly-priced works by a host of contemporary Mexican artists including Iván Salamanca and Abraham Mascorro Morales. Another unique perspective comes by way of Miami through Art Gaysel, a curated queer art experience by artist and impresario Alexander Guerra, which will feature his own photography work alongside standout emerging painter Nadav Gazit’s uncanny gender-bending portraits. Black Ship Gallery, a mobile curatorial program also based in Miami, will feature Japanese artist Ryota Unno’s playful panda paintings alongside anime-inspired works by Venezuelan up and comer Keyser Siso.

Superfine! will also present a special project entitled “Everything Old is New Again” featuring works that explore the idea of uncanny nostalgia – juxtaposing old with new in surprising ways that mirror the progression of New York City from grand old dame to beacon of modernity, and all the foibles that follow. The project, curated by codirectors Alex Mitow and James Miille, will feature works that explore the theme chosen from both gallery-represented artists and independent artists showing as solo positions within the fair.

The fair takes place at 459 West 14th Street in the Meatpacking District and kicks off on Thursday May 4th with an evening preview featuring DJ Carlos Charlie and live sets by up-and-coming NYC act Wooing. On Friday, May 5th, New York-based producer and musician Penguin Prison will headline a Young Collectors’ Ice Cream social with a DJ set and live vocal performance.
