The Fordham Urban Law Center will host “Sharing Economy, Sharing City: Urban Law and the New Economy” on Friday, April 24, 2015 from 9:00 a.m.-5:30 p.m. at the Fordham Law School, located at 150 West 62nd Street, New York, NY 10023. New York State Attorney General Eric T. Schneiderman will speak from 12:05 p.m.-1:20 p.m.
“Sharing Economy, Sharing City: Urban Law and the New Economy” will examine the current and future legal terrain of the sharing (or “peer-to-peer”) economy, with a focus on urban regulatory and industry responses to shifts within the global marketplace. In recent years, sharing-economy trends have given rise to complex legal and regulatory issues that have moved to the center of urban policy debates, from Berlin to Seoul to New York City. Today, companies like Uber, Lyft, Airbnb, TaskRabbit, and others, are increasingly challenging traditional regulatory paradigms while creative state and local governments try to respond to a rapidly changing economic landscape.
The goal of the event is to advance new possibilities for problem solving in this transforming area of urban law and entrepreneurship. The conference will explore the relationship between the sharing economy and metropolitan economic development, a changing urban workforce, and diverse approaches to legal and regulatory issues facing city governments, urban entrepreneurs, workers, consumers, and residents in today’s highly dynamic digital and built environments.
