Oratorio Society of Queens Fall Rehearsal Season
Rehearsals start for Handel’s “Messiah”
Auditions are Mondays, September 14 and 21
The Oratorio Society of Queens (OSQ), under the artistic direction of Maestro David Close, is coming together to prepare for their new singing season. You know you love to sing…we know you sing in the shower…so, come on! Join OSQ as a member and also join them onstage and look out at a packed house and exuberant audience at our concerts! Make plans now to register for an audition! Auditions are at 7:00 pm on Mondays, September 14 and September 21. Reservations are required. If you pass the audition, you go directly into rehearsals that night! The OSQ rehearses every Monday evening (Fall and Spring), from 7:45 to 10:00 pm in Temple Beth Sholom (in the FSG Hall) at 172nd Street and Northern Blvd. in Flushing.
As for the chorus, even with over 120 members, OSQ is eager to add to its roster of altos, sopranos, tenors, and bass singers each year. OSQ is a diverse group of men and women, young and old, of varied backgrounds and differing levels of singing ability—from sight-readers to those who learn by ear.
Singing with our chorus is an excellent opportunity to create beautiful music with others and meet a wide range of people. OSQ has given way to amazing lifelong friendships. The experiences of our members have been those of warm memories filled with music and wonderful individuals. We invite you to join our outstanding community!
The Oratorio Society of Queens sponsors a Student Choral Program that offers talented high school and college students the opportunity to sing and perform with OSQ.
OSQ’s Annual Holiday Concert is scheduled for Sunday, December 20. OSQ will be rehearsing Part I of Handel’s “Messiah,” plus many favorite traditional Christmas carols and Chanukah songs. The Annual Holiday Concert is performed with a professional orchestra and soloists in the Queensborough Performing Arts Center at Queensborough Community College. Maestro David Close is the Conductor and host of this venerable Queens tradition.
