The Cathedral of St. John the Divine will celebrate the departure of the year-long art installation, Phoenix: Xu Bing at the Cathedral with a special night of activities on Thursday, February 19 from 6:30pm – 12:00 am at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine, 1047 Amsterdam Avenue (at 112th Street).

A feat of engineering and ingenuity, Phoenix is composed of two birds, weighing a combined 12 tons and measuring 90 and 100 feet long, suspended, as if in flight, above the Nave of the Cathedral.

Nightbird: Constellation of the Phoenix will feature the Phoenix, illuminated solely by the myriad of tiny lights within their framework. The night will include activities for kids and their families, a yoga session, astonishing aerial views of Phoenix from the triforium level, and meditations on the Cathedral’s Great Organ.

The event is free and open to the public. A $10 donation at the door is appreciated. For more information and to RSVP, please visit http://www.stjohndivine.org/visit/calendar/events/art/12886/nightbird-constellation-of-the-phoenix.
