    Activities for families and children include vertical tours, organ meditations and reflection in the glow of the sculptures

    The Cathedral of St. John the Divine will celebrate the departure of the year-long art installation, Phoenix: Xu Bing at the Cathedral with a special night of activities on Thursday, February 19 from 6:30pm – 12:00 am at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine, 1047 Amsterdam Avenue (at 112th Street).

    A feat of engineering and ingenuity, Phoenix is composed of two birds, weighing a combined 12 tons and measuring 90 and 100 feet long, suspended, as if in flight, above the Nave of the Cathedral.

    Nightbird: Constellation of the Phoenix will feature the Phoenix, illuminated solely by the myriad of tiny lights within their framework. The night will include activities for kids and their families, a yoga session, astonishing aerial views of Phoenix from the triforium level, and meditations on the Cathedral’s Great Organ.
