Grand Central Terminal invites visitors and commuters to escape the heat of summer and join in on the second annual “Life’s A Picnic in Grand Central,” featuring a free indoor, public picnic space located in Vanderbilt Hall.

With Astroturf floor, picnic tables bedecked with classic gingham tablecloths, and live entertainment, visitors can relax in air-conditioned comfort with free Wi-Fi and food of their own or purchased from Grand Central vendors. The space will be open all day, with select vendors setting up shop in Vanderbilt Hall during the lunch and after-work hours. Participating vendors include Jacques Torres Ice Cream, Central Market, Junior’s Bakery, Murray’s Cheese, Financier Patisserie, and Shiro of Japan, among others.

The event features live entertainment every day during lunch, including live cooking demonstrations with Grand Central chefs, such as Chef Cenobio Canalizo from Michael Jordan’s The Steak House N.Y.C. and Executive Chef Hiro Ishikawa from Shiro of Japan. The lineup also includes performances from Big Apple Circus and “Broadway Hour” performances from hit musicals “Wicked,” “On the Town,” “Finding Neverland,” “Chicago,” “Something Rotten!” and “A Gentleman’s Guide to Love & Murder.”

Each evening will feature board games for the public to play, as well as a giant chess board. The relaxed after-work atmosphere will be accompanied by Music Under New York musicians setting the convivial mood. Beer and wine will be available for purchase from select vendors.
