Late Night: The Fiddle Off & Finnish Tango in NYC
Saturday, June 13
10:00pm | Canoe Studios | 601 West 26th Street, 14th Floor | $30
The 2015 Festival “Fiddle Off” showcases the captivating fiddle culture of Hungary and Finland in a furious (but friendly) faceoff between this year’s Festival artists. Each will “fiddle up” and up the ante with works of beauty and virtuosity from Finnish and Hungarian folk and contemporary repertoire.
The evening concludes with Finnish Tango, one of the most popular genres of music in Finland, and exquisitely presented by this year’s Ensemble-in-Residence Avanti!––a perfect ending to a midsummer night. Works by Bartók, Dohnányi, Joachim, Kuusisto, Niittykoski, Sibelius. Performers include Avanti! musicians, Milad Daniari, Amy Galluzzo, Emil Holmström, Jouku Laivuori, Tessa Lark, Lisa Lee, Ken-David Masur, Derek Mosloff, Nicolas Namoradze, Alex Shiozaki.
