NEW YORK, NY, June 8, 2017 – The Dominican Day Parade, Inc. a nonprofit organization that promotes the culture and folklore of the Dominican Republic, today hosted a community reception at the renowned 809 Restaurant located at 112 Dyckman Street in Manhattan to announce details of the forthcoming August 13, 2017 parade.

The theme of the 2017 parade will be: Our History to the Rhythm of Guira, Drum, and Accordion. Numerous events leading up to the parade will also incorporate the cultural and musical message including the Gala which will be hosted on Friday, August 11, 2017 at Dyker Beach Golf Club in Brooklyn, NY.

2017 Honorees for both the Gala and Parade are being considered. Those selected are notable Dominicans and Dominican Americans who will soon be made known to the public. They will be recognized for their respective accomplishments at the 35th annual parade on Sunday, August 13, 2017. The parade will take place on the Avenue of the Americas in Manhattan from 37th to 52nd Street commencing with a special ceremony at 10:30AM.

Guests such as Maria Diaz, the Queen of Merengue Tipico, and singer El Nene “Amenazzy” whose summery music is a mix between Spanish-language R&B and light reggaeton, exclaimed their excitement at being present at the reception in support of the parade.

“We are excited to have distinguished members of our community, elected representatives, and business leaders join us at this event and we look forward to sharing more details in the coming weeks,” said Chair of the Board of Directors Maria M. Khury. “Our Board is truly committed to ensuring we promote the spirit of Dominican culture and the inclusiveness of our values.”

Programs were also distributed to attendees, who received a schedule of July events free and open to the public in honor of the 2017 Dominican Day Parade. Events are funded by our Manhattan Borough President Gale Brewer, Brooklyn Borough President Eric L. Adams, and Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz, Jr. The DDP programs and activities will include dance classes and a traditional mask-making program which the Dominican Day Parade will offer to children of all ages in the community.
