Children’s Village SouSou! – In Celebration of Our Future!

New York, New York — As the Caribbean Cultural Center African Diaspora Institute (CCCADI) brings its SouSou! Saturdays’ family series season to a close for the summer, come lift up future generations through art and culture! Experience traditions, which not only connect communities of the African Diaspora but also create brilliance in children. Admission is free but requires registration via Event Brite. FIRST COME, FIRST SERVE.  We require participants to arrive 15 minutes before the session. 5 minutes prior to activity, any unclaimed tickets are released to walk-up and stand-by participants.

CCCADI’s  SouSou! Saturdays Program is inspired by the cooperative economic practice known throughout the African Diaspora by such names as “Colecta”, “Box Hand”, “San”, “Partna”, or “Sou-Sou.”  We’ve borrowed from, and transformed this long-standing practice of collective trust, and contribution into a “cultural SouSou” for the community. (Activities appropriate for children ages 4 -11)

Harambe Kids Dance Company Presentation – Second Floor Gallery A Presentation Time: 12:30 pm

East Harlem Cultural Family Tour – Tour Times: 11:30am and 1:30pm

Join Carlos Martinez Dominguez in exploring East Harlem’s culture, art, and its heroes/sheroes. Families, come enjoy learning something new about our wonderful community! Space is limited.

Ibeji Fan Art Workshop! – Second Floor Gallery B – Time: 11:00 NOON – 2:30 pm

In many African Diaspora communities, twins are seen as sacred and as a blessing to families. Celebrate twins and all children by making a special Ibeji fan to keep you cool during the summer months.

CCCADI KIDS BAZAAR! – First Floor Gallery – Time: 11:00am – 3:00pm

Kids books, and educational toys for sale.

GALLERY EXHIBITION– RACE, MYTH, ART, and JUSTICE – Time: 11:00 am – 3:00pm

Explore the lens of twelve multi-generational photographers examining the issue of race through myth, art, and justice. Free family activity guides available!
