Brooklyn Music School (BMS) presents its annual Rock Band Showcase on Saturday, March 24, 2019 at 3pm at The Slope Lounge, located at 837 Union Street, Brooklyn.

Rock at the Brooklyn Music School

The first BMS rock band was founded in 2006 by Piruz Partow (Executive Director) when he was a guitar faculty member at the Brooklyn Music School. Since the first rock band in 2006, BMS now has 12 rock bands currently learning and performing throughout the year. The rock bands have members ranging in age from as young as 5 years old in our “Groove Theory” Rock Band to adults in our “Motown Mondays” rock band. Rock bands at BMS are generally one hour classes that meet once a week and are open to players beyond the beginning level. Rock ensembles at BMS are a great opportunity for our students to see the results of their learning and practice through collaboration and group performances. BMS provides its ensembles with numerous unique showcase opportunities in our theatre and around the NYC area throughout the year. Recent notable performances include a Jimi Hendrix Tribute with Nels Cline (of Wilco), Sean Ono Lennon, and “Captain” Kirk Douglass (of The Roots), as well as Grammy winning singer for all ages, Dan Zanes.

The Brooklyn Music School views music and performance as the birthright of all people, an essential way that human beings connect with others and explore their creativity. The study of music has been demonstrated to enhance academic learning and helps to develop discipline and confidence that will serve children well throughout their lives. As part of the vision of reinventing the community music school for the 21st Century, BMS is dedicated to:

    * Making high quality musical instruction approachable and affordable to a wide range of students,

    * Creating frequent opportunities for performance for our students and cultural enrichment for our community,

    * Representing a wide range of musical traditions, including European, African, Middle Eastern, and American to represent the diversity of Brooklyn’s musical talent, and

    * Offering a warm and welcoming space for families and individuals to explore new talents and make lasting friendships.
