Bronx, NY – April 21, 2014 – Join The Bronx Concert Singers (BCS) and music director Robert René Galván on Sunday, May 18, at 4:30 pm, for their 33rd Annual Spring Concert at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1891 McGraw Avenue, in Parkchester, Bronx, NY.  Celebrate the arrival of spring with classical music and songs spanning a variety of genres featuring the music of Johannes Brahms, William Dawson, George Gershwin and others performed by the BCS chorus, with keyboardist Tamara Cashour, professional soloists and chamber orchestra.  For more information please call (917) 743-4641, visit www.bronxconcertsingers.org or email [email protected].

Maestro Galván conceived a program that embodies both the joys and the sorrows of spring and summer through songs that explore renewal, romance and happiness as well as loss, heartache and sadness.  This diverse production incorporates traditional Jewish song, African-American spirituals, German lied, opera excerpts and instrumental compositions.  Selections include picturesque works such as Charles Ives’ Circus Band, and George Gershwin’s Summertime; love songs of profound depth and sensitivity as expressed by Z. Randal Stroope’s Amor de mi Alma and James Muholland’s A Red, Red Rose, and choruses about the Romani life from times of old as envisioned by Robert Schumann’s Zigeunerleben and Johannes Brahms’ Zigeunerlieder.

Soloists for the performance are Malaika Alvaro, Beverly McDew and Melissa Raymond, sopranos; Alexandra Fetner and Jennifer Ponzoni, mezzo sopranos; Paul Armand, Tony Cineli and Dale Smith, tenors and Dalton Taylor, bass.

The Bronx Concert Singers’ 33rd Annual Spring Concert is made possible with public funds from the Bronx Council on the Arts through the Department of Cultural Affairs’ Greater New York Arts Development Fund Program, and the support of local businesses, organizations and individuals who appreciate the arts.

The Bronx Concert Singers is a nonprofit volunteer concert choir founded in the Parkchester section of the Bronx by people from all walks of life who love singing great choral music.  The chorus presents classical music concerts with either professional orchestra or chamber ensemble and has been a source of cultural enrichment in the community since 1981.  BCS is the chorus-in-residence at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church.
