Brazil’s Boa Vista June Festival Brings Dance and Music to Grand Central Terminal

    Thursday, May 8 and Friday, May 9, 2014, 12:00 – 7:00 pm

12:00-5:00 p.m., video footage and photo opportunities
5:00-7:00 p.m., dance and video performances

The Boa Vista June Festival, one of the biggest annual festivals in Brazil’s Amazon region, comes to Grand Central Terminal’s Vanderbilt Hall, with dance and music performances for the public to enjoy.

Named for the city in which it largely takes place, the Boa Vista June Festival features Quadrille dancers, known for their brightly colored dresses adorned with ribbons that swirl up and out when spun around. Quadrille dance performances have become a spectacle in Brazil, each with its own plot and theme.

At Grand Central Terminal, 20 dancers will display their talents accompanied by composer Joemir Guimarães and his musical group playing “forro,” one of Brazil’s most popular musical genres. In addition, videos showing footage of festivals in Brazil will play throughout the day and photo opportunities are available with the dancers.

The Boa Vista June Festival is free and open to the public.
