Cuomo Storms NYC Race with Record Fundraising Surge

Cuomo Campaign Raises Record $3.9M in 80 Days, Surging to Top of NYC Mayoral Race

In a powerful display of political momentum, Andrew Cuomo’s campaign for Mayor of New York City has shattered early fundraising records, announcing $3.9 million raised in just 80 days since the official fundraising kickoff on February 28, 2025. Combined with matching funds through the city’s Campaign Finance Board program, Cuomo’s campaign has now pulled in an estimated $8.28 million, reaching the maximum spending threshold allowed for the 2025 cycle.

The unprecedented haul positions Cuomo as a formidable force in the upcoming mayoral race, bolstered by $1.5 million in matching funds received on May 12 and an additional $2.8 million expected in the next round. Cuomo’s campaign attributes the early success to a broad base of support from across all five boroughs.

“We are truly overwhelmed by the outpouring of support,” said Bill Mulrow, Cuomo 2025 Campaign Chairman. “In just 80 days, New Yorkers from every borough have come together to build a campaign with the broadest and most diverse coalition of support, focused on getting New York City not just back on track, but better than ever.”

Cuomo officially launched his campaign in March 2025 with a sweeping, high-stakes declaration: New York City is in crisis, and only proven, experienced leadership can turn it around. In a launch speech that doubled as a policy manifesto, Cuomo laid out a vision rooted in action and accomplishment, citing his long career in public service and crisis management.

“You feel it when you try not to make eye contact with a mentally ill homeless person or when anxiety rises as you walk into the subway,” Cuomo said. “The city just feels out of control. These conditions are not acts of God but the result of failed political leadership.”

Cuomo’s platform includes aggressive investment in mental health care, public safety, affordable housing, and infrastructure, alongside a robust pro-police stance. He cited his own track record as governor—highlighting achievements like enacting the nation’s toughest gun laws, leading the country on marriage equality and paid family leave, building key infrastructure projects, and steering New York through the COVID-19 pandemic.

Framing himself as a battle-tested executive with a progressive legacy rooted in results, Cuomo emphasized his commitment to leading with competence and urgency. “Government can work, and we proved it,” he declared, referencing a list of ambitious projects from a new LaGuardia to the Mario M. Cuomo Bridge.

Critics may continue to point to the controversies that led to his 2021 resignation, but Cuomo has framed those experiences as lessons learned—insisting that his decades of experience and resilience make him uniquely qualified to lead the city through its current challenges.

As the campaign heads into summer, Cuomo’s team believes the early financial surge will allow them to dominate messaging, expand grassroots outreach, and build a robust field operation.

With record-breaking fundraising, a sharpened policy agenda, and name recognition few rivals can match, Andrew Cuomo has made one thing clear: he’s not just running for mayor—he’s running to redefine what New York City leadership can be in a time of crisis.
