Here at 112th St. in the upper west side of Manhattan is this great church. It is the largest Gothic Cathedral in the nation and is over 600 feet in length. Within are eight great columns soaring high above the ground. Each weighs about 130 tons. ‘But what will really capture your attention are over 150 stained glass windows depicting religious and non religious scenes, not to mention the art treasures found within.

Construction on this great cathedral began in 1892, but it has never ended. It is said that upon completion, this would be the largest cathedral in the world. Actually, it so large that the you could fit the Statue of Liberty within.

Sitting within its 13 acres of gardens and grounds is this magnificent statue of Archangel Michael’s slaying of Satan. There are plaques nearby giving you information regarding this statue. It’s really something else. You definitely have to see this in person to truly appreciate it. Walking up to the Cathedral you’re taken in by it’s architecture, the ornaments and its grand doors beckoning you in.

It’s quite a sight. Check out the visitor section below or visit their website for more information on some of the church’s programs, performing arts and other events.
