The South Street Seaport Museum offers specially-designed birthday parties in the miniMates play-space, aboard the tall ship Wavertree (ages 6 and up), or charters sailing aboard the schooner Pioneer (ages 9 and up).
Ahoy! Celebrate a child’s birthday at the Seaport Museum!
Come celebrate a child’s birthday at the South Street Seaport Museum with an interactive experience they won’t forget. Birthdays at the Seaport Museum are specially designed to be age appropriate for the birthday child, but guests of all ages will enjoy the fun.
For children 1-7, parties are hosted in our miniMates play-space.
Children 6 and up can board the South Street Seaport Museum’s largest artifact, the tall ship Wavertree and have a party on her main deck
For children 9 and up, charter the historic schooner Pioneer for a celebratory sail of New York’s Harbor!
Birthday parties in the miniMates play-space and on Wavertree run from either 11:30-1:30 or 2:30-4:30 on Saturdays and Sundays. For more information about chartering Pioneer, email [email protected] or call (212) 748-8568.
Parties are available on Saturdays and Sundays from 11:30am-1:30pm or from 2:30pm-4:30pm, and can be booked by emailing [email protected]. Parties aboard the Pioneer (ages 9 and up) can accommodate up to 36 people. For more information about chartering Pioneer, email [email protected] or call (212) 748-8568.
MiniMates Play-Space: Little Sailors: 1-3 years old 
This fun-filled birthday party features five active stations for children and their parents to enjoy! This party includes:

  • Two hours in the miniMates play-space
  • Two museum educators to host the party
  • The opportunity to touch live sea creatures, including crabs and snails
  • A boat-themed craft
  • Water table exploration time
  • A maritime game that will get the kids up and moving!
  • And much more!

Seaport Sea Creatures: 4-7 years old
This animal themed party includes:

  • Two hours in the miniMates play-space
  • Two museum educators to host the party
  • Live animal handling of our aquatic neighbors such as crabs and sails
  • Up close viewing of animals using electronic magnifiers
  • A fishy craft to take home
  • The opportunity to get up and move with an animal exercise game!

Float Your Boat: 4-7 years old
This party theme includes:

  • Two hours in the miniMates play-space
  • Two museum educators to host the party
  • Water fun as children make discoveries about what floats and what sinks
  • A boat based craft
  • Boat races
  • A nautical game where party participants will find safe harbor!

Parties on the tall ship Wavertree:

Birthday Sail-ebration: 6 and up
This party theme includes:

  • Two hours on the tall ship Wavertree
  • Two museum educators to host the party
  • A tour of the ship
  • The opportunity to raise sail
  • Experience the power of Wavertree’s capstan with a round of tug o’ war
  • Help Wavertree deliver her cargo with an interactive game

Parties on schooner Pioneer:

  • Two hour private charter aboard the historic schooner Pioneer
  • Amazing views of New York Harbor including the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island
  • Two museum educators to host the party
  • The chance to raise sails with the crew
  • Two hands on stations: navigation and knot tying

The South Street Seaport Museum does not provide food, drink, paper goods, or decorations. Please note that balloons are not permitted on Wavertree or Pioneer for environmental concerns.

The South Street Seaport Museum, located in the heart of the historic seaport district in New York City, preserves and interprets the history of New York as a great port city. Founded in 1967, and designated by Congress as America’s National Maritime Museum, the Museum houses an extensive collection of works of art and artifacts, a maritime reference library, exhibition galleries and education spaces, working nineteenth century print shops, and an active fleet of historic vessels that all work to tell the story of “Where New York Begins.”
