Burr vs. Hamilton Duel/Debate

Can Aaron Burr and Alexander Hamilton make peace for one day? Probably not! Join us as we commemorate the anniversary
of that infamous day (July 11th, 1804) by presenting a verbal duel between
Burr scholar, Kurt Thometz, and Hamilton scholar, Jimmy Napoli.
This spirited and witty afternoon is not to be missed!

Eliza Jumel’s
Bastille Day Tour of Uptown
Sunday, July 14th 11AM – 1PM
Bastille Day befits a French toast to Madame Eliza Jumel.
Join Award winning tour guide Eric K. Washington to commemorate one of the country’s most effervescent personas
and its richest woman. The tour begins at Morris-Jumel, with an exploration of both the period rooms and contemporary art which evokes Eliza’s personality. A walking tour will lead you to Trinity Church Cemetery, where Jumel keeps company with several permanent residents who evoke her colorful life and times.
This tour is presented in conjunction with The Municipal Arts Society of New York

Jumel Salon Evening
Thursday, July 25th 6:30 PM – 8:30 PM
An introduction to the most liberated woman of Revolutionary and Antebellum America in her very own salon.
For your entertainment and enlightenment, artist Camilla Huey will discuss “The Loves of Aaron Burr” installation,
give guests a tour and share nearly a decade’s research into the world of Eliza Jumel.
The event is $20 per person, an exhibition catalog along
with light refreshments is included in your admission price.

Colonial Life Weeklong
Family Workshop
Monday July 22nd – Friday July 26th
1PM – 4PM Daily
Step back in time and experience life as a child during the Colonial and Revolutionary War periods. This weeklong workshop encourages children to interact with the past through tours, hands-on projects and interactive learning. Children will make journals, marbleized paper, weather vanes, games and other projects they will get to take home at the end of the week.
The workshop is appropriate for students ages 6 and up and
an adult learning partner is required to stay with the student.
Registration is recommended for the FULL week and is FREE,

Morris-Jumel Mansion is Manhattan’s oldest house. Built in 1765 by British officer Roger Morris, the house was later inhabited by George Washington during the Battle of Harlem Heights in 1776 and the Jumel family from 1810 to 1865. The house, now a museum, is open to the public Wednesday through Sunday 10 am to 4 pm. The museum is located between 160th and 162nd Streets just east of St. Nicholas Avenue and can be easily reached via the C train to 163rd Street, the A train to 168th Street, or the M2, M3, M101 or M18 bus to 160th Street.
