Event Highlights for August 2013

n addition to being a major transportation hub, Grand Central Terminal (GCT) is a midtown shopping and dining destination known for its mix of restaurants, cocktail lounges, high-end informal eateries, gourmet food and wine shops, and a vibrant array of specialty shops. The Terminal celebrates its 100th anniversary throughout 2013. Below are event updates for August at GCT.
Events:
- Ongoing through December 1, 2013 – Grand Central Sketchbook: Designers Dream (10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tues – Fri; 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekends; closed Mondays and major holidays; New York Transit Museum, Boerum Place and Schermerhorn Street, Brooklyn, NY) – An art exhibition featuring the 20 winners of a competition hosted by the Architectural League of New York and the New York Transit Museum for architects and designers to capture or re-imagine Grand Central Terminal. The winning art ranges from whimsical to technical, from charcoal drawings to computer-generated fantasies, and are featured in a Grand Central Sketchbook produced by Moleskine.
- Ongoing through October 27, 2013 – The Next Level: East Side Access Photographs by Hiroyuki Suzuki (Mon – Fri from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m to 6 p.m.) – A behind-the-scenes and under-the-ground look at the MTA’s East Side Access project that will bring Long Island Railroad trains to Grand Central Terminal, The Next Level features captivating black-and-white images by photographer Hiroyuki Suzuki at the New York Transit Museum Gallery Annex in Grand Central Terminal. Presented by the New York Transit Museum.
