Zürich Meets New York City at Grand Central Terminal
Experience Switzerland up close at this weeklong cultural event
May 16-23, 2014
9:00 am – 8:00 pm daily
This event is free and open to the public.
As part of the citywide “Zürich Meets New York: A Festival of Swiss Ingenuity,” ETH Zurich invites New Yorkers to visit a virtual Zurich inside Vanderbilt Hall at Grand Central Terminal. Using the latest augmented reality (AR) technologies, visitors can experience the style, culture, and excitement of Switzerland’s largest city on a “train ride” from Grand Central. Visitors can also meet and take pictures with Eva, ETH Zurich’s virtual superhero scientist, in her fully decked-out science lab, as she encourages young people to pursue the wonders of science.
Also featured is an exhibition from award-winning photographer and environmentalist Yann Arthus-Betrand, author of the bestselling book, Earth from Above. Presented by Switzerland Tourism and taken from Arthus-Betrand’s new film, Human, spectacular birds-eye images of Switzerland are displayed in large format in Vanderbilt Hall.
