Vintage Camera Day at the Alice Austen House
Sunday, November 8
12:00 – 4:00 p.m.
FREE
Have fun with the art of vintage photography!
“”Join us for our free event celebrating the magic of analog photography and lure of vintage cameras. Bring your old cameras to consult with the “Camera Doctor” about repairs, film, and resources for processing. Take your own vintage photograph with 120mm and 35mm cameras to be included in our #AliceAustenEveryday project, where the public is invited to document the house, grounds, and activities of the museum, much like Alice Austen did 100 years ago. Take a tour of Alice’s darkroom on the second story of the museum, where one of Alice Austen’s original cameras and darkroom equipment are on view.
Special presentations will start at 1:00 p.m. with a demonstration on how Alice Austen captured and processed images in the late 19th century. At 2:30 p.m. photographers Edward Coppola and Doug Schwab will provide a hands-on demonstration to create a cyanotype print (or blue print), an early non-silver photo technique.
Vintage Camera Day is supported, in part, by public funds from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the City Council. We are grateful for additional support of Fire Violation Service, Inc. and EM Photo Services.””
