VETERANS WEEK NYC, NOVEMBER 1 – 19
New York, NY – Veterans Week NYC 2013, which runs from November 1 – 19, is devoted to celebrating, thanking and honoring our nation’s veterans and active duty military personnel, and has been organized under one comprehensive banner that includes seminars, forums, concerts, tours, screenings, symposiums and special benefit galas. The Week’s centerpiece on November 11, “America’s Parade,” will be the 94th annual New York City Veterans Day Parade, the largest celebration of service in the nation, with participants from all over the U.S.

Arts & Service Celebration w/ Veterans Artists Program
What: A week of workshops, service projects and performances supporting and celebrating veterans seeking professional careers in the arts.

“Stand Up For Heroes”

For the 7th consecutive year, the Bob Woodruff Foundation and the New York Comedy Festival proudly present Stand Up for Heroes, an evening of comedy and music benefitting our injured service members, veterans and their families. The History of Veterans Day in NYC

A showcase of NYC’s hertitage of service, including the military history of each borough and Veterans Art Therapy from local veterans.

War/Photography Exhibition
What: War Photography Exhibition

Who is it for: Veterans, Family, and General Public

- Featuring Images of Armed Conflict and Its Aftermath explores the experience of war with a collection of photos from around the world
- Approximately 400 objects: photographic prints, books, magazines, albums, and camera equipment—All spanning from the Mexican-American War in 1846 through present-day conflicts)
- This collection brings together both iconic and unknown images taken by members of the military, commercial portraitists, journalists, amateurs, artists, and numerous Pulitzer Prize-winning photographers
- Includes the works of some 284 photographers from 28 nations who have covered conflicts on six continents

- Readings from General Odierno, Army Chief of Staff, and U.S. Army General Ann E. Dunwoody (Ret.), the first American female Four-Star General

Band of Pride Concert
Venue: Dag Hammarskjold Plaza– East 47th St. bet. 1st and 2nd Ave., NYC
Time: 7:30am
Who is it for: Veterans and General Public

- Join UWVC and NYC Group Tours as Dag Hammarskjold Plaza, in the shadow of the historic U.N. Building, gets overrun by 1,000 high school students from national marching bands

NYC Veterans Day Parade Opening Ceremony & Wreath Laying
Venue: Eternal Light Monument, Madison Square Park
24th Street and 5th Avenue
Time: 10am – 11am
Cost: Free and open to the public. Rain or shine.
Join us for the traditional Opening Ceremony for the 2013 New York City Veterans Day Parade! Included in the ceremony are remarks by Mayor Bloomberg and other elected officials as well as senior veteran and military leadership. Musical tributes, readings, a 21-rifle salute and “Taps” are also included so be sure to join us.
