    The Village Temple presents

    A JAZZ SHABBAT

    March 7, 2014

Villate TempleFebruary 10, 2014, New York NY – Weaving the traditional Shabbat liturgy into the heart-felt ballads of the American Songbook and soul stirring music of Quintet Hot Club de France, the Village Temple in the heart of Greenwich Village will present a unique jazz Shabbat experience on March 7. Familiar jazz favorites and new themes will be drawn from the works of Duke Ellington, Cole Porter, Kurt Weill, Ira Gershwin and Django Reinhardt, who founded Quintet Hot Club de France in Paris in 1934.

The evening begins at 6:45 pm with an Erev Shabbat worship service led by Rabbi Chava Koster, joined by Musical Director Anita Hollander and musicians Haim Cotton, Diego Campo and Omar Little. A festive dessert buffet Oneg will follow the services.

This is the sixth year of a series of SynaplexTM Shabbat experiences at The Village Temple, presenting programs of interest to those who live in lower Manhattan that explore a wide range of topics from the Jews of the diaspora to contemporary music.

The Friday night worship service and dessert buffet are open to adults and children of all ages. An RSVP and donation of $10 per person, payable through the Village Temple website (www.villagetemple.org), are requested. Tickets at the door are $15. Children ages 3-12 may attend a Shabbat Yeladim children’s program while adults attend Synaplex.

“Music plays a huge role in our experience of Shabbat,” said Julie Salamon, Co-president of The Village Temple. “We’re delighted that these fantastic musicians will join Rabbi Koster to give a jazz spin to our traditional melodies,”
