The Bronx Opera – a leading modern interpreter of Mozart – presents another classic in English.
Bronx, NY – BxO’s Season 48 comes to a close with Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s sequel to the Barber of Seville. The Marriage of Figaro follows the married and bored Count Almaviva, and his continued philandering. This time he has chosen his wife’s maid to satiate his carnal desires. Only one thing stands in his way… her fiancée… FIGARO… no longer a barber, now the Count’s right-hand man. Mozart’s “folle journée” (crazy day) includes appearances by a slimy music master out for revenge, a scheming spinster, a drunken gardener, and numerous… and amorous… cohorts.
By popular demand, this production of Figaro will be performed exclusively at the home base of the BxO, Lehman College’s Lovinger Theater. Figaro features Jeremy Moore, Markel Reed, Allyson Herman, Hannah Spierman, Halley Gilbert, Jenna Siladie, Shane Brown, Brace Negron, Augusta Caso, Perri Sussman, Elizabeth Perryman, Leslie Swanson, Erik Bagger, Elliott Deasy, Samuel Themer, C. David Morrow, Jack Anderson White, Alexander Hahn, Ryan Slone, Smitha Johnson, and Nina Riley.

Throughout its two score and eight-year history, the Bronx Opera has succeeded in presenting classical works that explore topics that still resonate today. We’ve seen class wars with Orpheus in the Underworld; the price of art in The Impresario; sexual mores in Pagliacci and Albert Herring; even identity theft in Die drei Pintos and The Rivals. BxO is acclaimed for its continued celebration and exploration of the works of Mozart with productions of The Marriage of Figaro, Don Giovanni, The Magic Flute, The Abduction from the Seraglio, The Impresario, and Così fan tutte, which premiered the company in 1967.
