The Last Unknown Place in New York City: A Conversation with Christopher Payne & Michael Miscione
Thursday, March 26 at 6:30 p.m.
Museum of the City of New York
North Brother Island is 20-acre collection of ruins in the middle of New York City. It was once home to a quarantine hospital and the residence of Typhoid Mary. Today it is a wildlife sanctuary, abandoned and off-limits to visitors. But between 2008 and 2013, photographer Christopher Payne was granted exclusive access to the island. Payne will share his discoveries using images from his book, North Brother Island: The Last Unknown Place in New York City (2014), and discuss North Brother’s remarkable history with Manhattan Borough Historian Michael Miscione. Book signing to follow. Co-sponsored by the Office of the Manhattan Borough President. Free for Museum members, $12 students/seniors, $16 general public.
