The Cathedral continues to celebrate the departure of the yearlong art installation, Phoenix: Xu Bing at the Cathedral with a captivating night of poetry on Wednesday, February 25 from 7 pm to 10 pm at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine, 1047 Amsterdam Avenue (at 112th Street).
This phenomenal evening, coordinated in partnership with the Weatherhead East Asia Institute at Columbia University, will include remarks by the artist, Xu Bing, and readings by five of the most celebrated poets in China: Bei Dao, Ouyand Jianghe, Xi Chuan, Zhai Yongming and Zhou Zan. Five premiere Western poets—Afaa Weaver, Pierre Joris, Mei-Mei Berssenbrugge, Charles Bernstein, and Marilyn Nelson, the Cathedral’s Poet in Residence—will also share selections from their works.
Books by the poets will be available for signing at the conclusion of the reading. A brief reception with refreshments and engaging conversation will follow.
