    The Aurora Project

The Navigators are pleased to announce the New York premier of The Aurora Project by Bella Poynton. The play will be performed at Access Theater, June 2-18 at 8pm. Tickets are $25, and are available at www.navigatorstheater.com.

    About the play:

The Aurora Project follows Constantine, a robot indistinguishable from human beings, and Nora, a genetically enhanced explorer, as they begin an endless voyage across the uncharted universe. When Nora decides to go against Constantine’s wishes and visit a strange new planet, she is quickly infected with an incurable illness. To delay losing the only person he loves to a gruesome death, Constantine takes it upon himself to suspend them both in cryo-freeze. Thus, the pair begins a kind of chemical induced time warp, spanning millions of years as they wait for the universe to get smarter, and a cure to Nora’s illness to be found.

    Cast & Crew:

Bella Poynton, the company’s Artistic Director, is the playwright. The play is directed by Creative Director Jesse Kane-Hartnett, with costumes and makeup design by Sarah Pencheff. Cast: Nicole Orabona (Nora), Ian Potter (Constantine), Joel Austin (The Designer), Michael DeSantis (Questry), and Amelia Fei (The Gatekeeper). Stage managed by Jihee Choi, and produced by Producing Director Ariel Francoeur. Melina Neves, the company’s Literary Manager, is the dramaturg and associate producer.

    About The Navigators:

The Company was founded in 2014, when three unique theater artists, Bella Poynton (playwright), Ariel Francoeur (director), and Melina Neves (actress/dramaturg) came together during their studies at The University of Iowa. The team worked on several plays written by Poynton, and decided to create a professional collective to share their vision of Science Fiction Theater with a broader audience.

The Navigators’ mission is to produce Science Fiction Theater with a clear feminist perspective. They are dedicated to elevating female driven stories in a genre dominated by men. In their productions, they empower women playwrights, producers, directors, designers, and actors. The company seeks to engage new audiences, realize new and daring realities, and expand the boundaries of what theater can achieve by fully exploring sci-fi on stage.
