The New York Road Runners (NYRR) and Staten Island Borough President James Molinaro today announced the public events and activities that will take place at “Staten Island Day,” a day dedicated to positively impacting the communities of Staten Island and providing support for ongoing recovery efforts following Hurricane Sandy.  “Staten Island Day” will take place on Sunday, October 13th from 8:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. at and around Richmond County Bank Ballpark, located at 75 Richmond Terrace, Staten Island.

The day’s activities include the annual Staten Island Half Marathon — a 13.1-mile race, a 1.5-mile Fun Run open to runners of all ages, traditional carnival games, live musical performances, inflatable slides and obstacle courses, a rock climbing wall, athletic competitions, Staten Island Yankees Fun Zone, and a Taste of Staten Island which will showcase cuisine and pizza from some of Staten Island’s restaurants that were most affected by Hurricane Sandy. Additionally, the NY/NJ Super Bowl Host Committee’s “Join the Huddle” tour, featuring football activities and the Lombardi Trophy, will bring the 2014 Super Bowl interactive experience to Staten Island for the first time.

Admission to Staten Island Day is free of charge.  Registration for the Fun Run costs $10; registration for the Staten Island Half Marathon ranges from $45-$65.

The Staten Island Half Marathon will start at 8:30 a.m., and the 1.5-mile fun run will start at 10:30 a.m.  Post-race festivities will take place until 3:00 p.m.

“Staten Island Day” partners and exhibitors include the Staten Island Yankees, NY/NJ Super Bowl Host Committee, NYPD, FDNY, US Army, Pier 76, Amazing Amusements, Race2Rebuild, Community Health Associates (free health screenings), USATF New York, National Park Service and Oakley.

Net proceeds from the event will be donated to the Siller Foundation and ECHO (Emergency Children’s Health Organization) to benefit the areas of Staten Island that were among the most affected by Hurricane Sandy.
